Petitioning to Graduate
You must fill out a Petition to Graduate approximately one year before your intended graduation date. As part of this process, you must sit down with an advisor in each of your majors and minors. He or she will confirm your progress through the major or minor and make sure that you are aware of any outstanding degree requirements. Your advisor will also check your academic progress report in Caesar to make sure that it accurately reflects your actual academic progress. Finally, he or she will sign your petition to indicate that you are on track to complete the major or minor by your intended graduation date.
The English department’s portion of the petition to graduate generally takes about five minutes for literature minors and twenty minutes for literature majors. In addition to filling out the online or paper petition form, literature majors are required to fill out an English Major Worksheet. If you have a long-term faculty advisor, he or she can sign your petition to graduate. If you don’t have a long-term faculty advisor, you should take your petition directly to the DUS. The DUS is also the only person who can authorize exceptions to major and minor requirements.Back to top
