Teaching of English
Students planning to teach high-school English must take two 200- or 300-level courses in language and composition, one of which must be English 205.
They also take three related courses, which must include one in Linguistics, one in Reading or Language Acquisition, and one in non-Western literature.
Certification courses that follow the professional education sequence are outlined in the School of Education and Social Policy section of the Undergraduate Bulletin. Students choosing this option should consult an adviser in the Office of Student Affairs in the School of Education and Social Policy as early as possible in their college programs. If their records in English are strong enough, Teaching of English majors are eligible to undertake departmental honors in Literature.
