Volume 37: Open Topic

Renaissance Drama 37 (2008) will be a special issue on the topic “Italy and the Drama of Europe,” to be edited by Albert Russell Ascoli and William N. West. We seek submissions for this volume that highlight the role that Italy played in the emergence of a new European drama in the early modern period (ca. 1450-1700). Essays may address dramas written by Italian authors; dramas from other European nations which either are engaged with Italian "intertexts" or represent Italy and Italians, or both, and comparative essays that bring Italian and other drama together.

Finished essays should be submitted by January 1, 2008. Length is open. However, in order to accommodate as wide a range of submissions as possible, we ask that you attempt to keep the total word count (including text, notes, and bibliography) between 8000 and 12,000. All manuscripts should follow the stylistic guidelines of The Chicago Manual of Style (15th edition), including endnote reference citations. Please submit copies of your manuscript saved as an electronic file attachment (either as richtext, an rtf file, or as a Word file) to:
