Joyce Kelley (Ph.D. University of Iowa, 2007) joins the department of English as a visiting assistant professor and CIC postdoctoral fellow.  Her interests include British and transnational modernist fiction, literature by women, Victorian literature, music and literature, and travel writing.  She recently completed a dissertation entitled “Excursions into Modernism:  Women Writers, Travel, and the Body.”  She is currently teaching courses on British Modernism, Transnational Modernism, William Faulkner, and Victorian literature.  Past honors include a University of Iowa Council on Teaching Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award and the first place essay/presentation prize in humanities at the 2006 James A. Jakobsen Graduate Forum at the University of Iowa.  Joyce has published articles on early twentieth century women travel writers and on the literary relationship between Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West.  Most recently, she has been asked to contribute an article on Virginia Woolf and music for the forthcoming Edinburgh Companion to Virginia Woolf and the Arts edited by Maggie Humm.
