Full- or Part-time Visiting Assistant Professor or Lecturer in Creative Writing: Poetry

Visiting Assistant Professor or Lecturer for a full- or part-time one-year position in the Northwestern University English Department, beginning September 2017. We are seeking a poet who meets the following criteria: 1) significant creative publication; 2) critical expertise in poetry and prosody, as well as the ability to teach poetry-writing courses; 3) a record of quality teaching in a curriculum with a strong reading and analytic component 4) an MFA or PhD in creative writing. Hires will teach beginning courses in reading and writing poetry, situating creative writing within the close reading of contemporary and historical poetry. Applications should consist of: a cover letter specifying preference for a full or part-time position, and specifically addressing items 2 and 3 above; a c.v. including names and contact information of references; and a writing sample of 5 poems, not to exceed 10 pages in total (no books or complete MSS at this time). A full-time position is six quarter-length courses. Preference is given to faculty who have experience teaching a diverse student body.
